Blog #2

Its ironic that in the man's very first existence into the world, he breaks a rule.  In today's corrupt and evil world, rule breaking is prevalent everywhere.  It was as if it was foreshadowed from the very first story in the Bible, that man was bound to be evil.  This is my first time reading the Bible, so it was nice to read the story of Adam and Eve actually how it was intended.  It was easy reading and told of a good story.  The beginning parts seemed to resemble a sort of beautiful poetry describing the creation of the stars, plants, and animals.  I also realized that in this story is where we get our idea of snakes and serpents as being a figure of evil, since it was the serpent who convinced Eve to eat the fruit.
I enjoyed the story of Esther because of the eventual triumph of the Jews over Mordecai.  Previously, the kings men were all against the Jews but soon, "all the nobles of the provinces, the satraps, the governors, and the king's administration helped the Jews, because fear of Mordecai had seized them." It is a classic story of a group of people overcoming adversity and standing up for what is right and I enjoyed that. Not too much else to say about the reading's.

  1. I am so excited that you enjoyed your first reading of the Bible! I particularly like your very first statement: the first thing man does is break a rule. This past year I have come to accept that humans are naturally evil. I mean, we have to be taught not to lie or steal, but those things come naturally to children before they are punished for those actions. We truly have to think and try to do good. Since you are a first-time Bible reader, I would love to hear what you think about on the Ecclesiastes reading, since it is about what is pleasing to God, sort of some "rules" that humans could break.

  2. The beginning of the Bible is so awesome to read. It reminds me that God is the creator of everything- good and bad. I feel this story is important for all humans to read because it is a reminder that no one is perfect and God did not intend for anyone to be that way. By the way I am so glad you enjoyed your first reading of the Bible! =)

  3. It is great to know that you finally have gotten a chance to dwell into the readings of the bible. One thing that I would like to bring up is the issue of man bound to be evil. I don't think that it was necessarily that we were bound to be evil. I think that all of this evil that is in the world could have not taken place if Adam and Eve did not take of the fruit there of. We are free agents and God does not make us do things we do not want to do, and he offered this to Adam and Eve as well. Therefore, we weren't bound to be evil. We ,or they rather, had a choice. Of course, Adam and Eve would be held accountable for all man kind and we had to endure the sin that they did. So yes, I agree with your statement by those standards after Adam and Eve had eaten the apple...but just keep in mind that they were free to do what ever they chose to do.

:) Also, be careful...it was the triumph over Haman, not Mordecai. Great post and yes the bible can be very interesting.

  4. I'm glad that you're finding the richness of Bible as story. Sometimes we forget that one of the reasons people still feel drawn to the Bible is not just because of the Truth they might find there, but also because of the stories they do find.
